Ain’t nothin’ better than a mare with a sleek coat and a sharp mind’s what I always say. Form and function–just like this here sign for yer party! Guide those gauchos while adding some mighty nice decor to round up your western theme. (I’m really into this western stuff…bear with me.)

Let’s get started.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Stencils to trace letters (I printed my font from here)
  • Grade Stakes (I bought a huge pack of these at home depot for super cheap!)
  • Appx. 5′ Wooden Dowels
  • Black Acrylic Paint
  • Nails (long enough to go through the wood in the dowel; probably 2-2.5″ will do)

Step 1:

Trace your font on your wooden stakes. Fill it in with the black acrylic paint.

Step 2:

Figure out the placing for your stakes along your dowel, angling them for added hominess. Placing the nail in the middle of one of your letters will hide the nail, and you can paint over the head of the nail to better conceal it later. It’s helpful to have someone hold the stake in balance on top of the dowel while you hammer (let’s keep all those fingers intact, now). Hammer your nail through the dowel. If the nail sticks out in the back, just cover it with a pencil eraser!

Step 3:

Step back and admire. I ended up just driving mine into the dirt, but you can also stick it in a planter, too!

This is such a sweet and easy project, and it honestly helped the guests figure out what in the Sam hell was going on.
